Nearly 700 cyclists came out to test their strength and stamina at the fifth
annual Mt. Baker Hill Climb September 9.
Race director Charlie Heggem was confident
that the course record would be broken on a beautiful end of summer day
and he was proven correct.
Adam Jensen reached the finish line in one hour,
18 minutes and 19 seconds, beating last yeat’s record-setting time
of one hour, 20 minutes and 32 seconds.
Leah Goldstein set the course record
for women with a blistering time of one hour, 29 minutes and 58 seconds.
Proving
you’re only as old as you feel, 52 year-old Ned Overend finished
just 36 seconds behind the first place winner. Joe Myers took two hours,
31 minutes and 46 seconds to power up the hill on a unicycle. Andrew Berg finished
in one hour, 43 minutes and 50 seconds on a single-speed bike. |
