The
Black Mountain Forestry Center will feature a new arboretum
and will be offering rides on a model-scale steam locomotive,
along with other activities at their World of Wood (WOW)
festival August 26 and 27.
The festival will include a 5K fun run, food, live music,
pie eating contests, and displays by chainsaw artists Rocky
Mcarther, Steve Orne and Hanke Felkey.
The center also offers weekend educational tours beginning
at the center and winding up around Black Mountain, making
stops at 13 locations to discuss topics such as hydrology,
watershed management, forestry management, different cutting
techniques, and reforestation. The cost is $10 with the
option of lunch available for an additional $8.
The Black Mountain Forestry Center is located at 9006 Silver
Lake Road, three miles east of Maple Falls, and is open
Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. from Memorial Day
through Labor Day weekends. For more information about
the tours, call 599-2623, or for applications for vending
or the 5K fun run, visit www.blackmountainforestry.com.
