What’s new in Foothills business?

by Tara Nelson

Mt. Baker Farmer’s Market begins first season

The Mt. Baker Farmer’s Market began its first season June 10, selling lots of fresh produce, arts, crafts, and local, homemade goods and filling a much-needed void after the Foothills Farmer’s Market disbanded last year.

Kristin Dahn and her husband, along with Crossroads Grocery’s new owners Dave and Jen Halliday, organized the market after concluding the foothills community needed better representation.
“We wanted to harvest the talent the foothills community has to offer,” Dahn said. “We’re really excited because we’ve put a lot of work into this. It’s going to be a huge benefit to the community.”
Dahn added the market’s location in Kendall where Mt. Baker Highway and Kendall Highway intersect, will provide a convenient and centralized location for most foothills residents.

The market is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays at the Kendall elementary school front parking lot and on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to dusk. For more information, call 599-9545 or 988-0533, or visit www.mtbakermarket.com.

Couple buys Crossroads Grocery

Maple Fall’s popular Crossroad’s Grocery has new owners and new plans for the future.

Foothills residents Dave and Jen Halliday bought the popular market last month and said they have plans to purchase the entire building in coming months. The 9,000-square foot complex includes Mountain Dos hair salon, Mt. Baker Baptist Church, Foothills Visitor’s Center.
“This is a little store we’ve always shopped at and we didn’t want it to go away,” said Jen Halliday.

Former owner Lance Bailey put the store up for sale after he opened his northwestern cuisine restaurant Fool’s Onion in Fairhaven last fall.

Halliday said they plan to expand their eclectic selection of natural foods, local produce, and movie rentals but also add other items.
Crossroads Grocery is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is located at the corner of Mt. Baker Highway and Silver Lake Road. They can be reached by calling 599-9657.

Certified Rolfing services

Foothills resident Luca Williams, owner of Luca’s Rolfing Studio in Bellingham, recently began offering Rolfing and cranial sacral therapy to residents of the Glacier area.

Williams said Rolfing, or Rolfing structural integration, helps to improve body alignment, flexibility and movement.

Luca Williams is available for in-home visits in the Glacier area and can be reached by calling 360/305-4126.
