Local film to be chosen for 5Point Film Festival

Posted

The 5point Film Festival's "On the Road" tour is coming to Depot Market Square in Bellingham. The outdoor screening will feature the year's best adventure sports cinematography and storytelling, and feature as a guest speaker Fitz Cahall from the online radio show Dirtbag Diaries.

Cahall's digital agency Duct Tape Then Beer produced the film The Road from Karakol, which won "Best of Festival" this year. It's about a man's solo bicycle journey through Kyrgyzstan to climb a major peak. Here's the trailer:

A variety of films from the main festival in Carbondale, Colorado are on the lineup. Along with those, a single film from a local filmmaker will be selected for screening at the main event.

Dana Thornton, who is helping to organize the event, explained:

"So, technically we are organizing two events. On August 22nd, we are hosting a local adventure film competition to take place in the gear loft of Backcountry Essentials. We have been reaching out to as many local filmmakers as we can find asking for short film submissions that highlight "the spirit of adventure in Bellingham" in 3-6 minutes."

The winner of that competition will have their film shown at the main event. Anyone interested in submitting a video is encouraged to contact Dana at dana.thornton.wa@gmail.com.

The American Alpine Club's Cascade Section is hosting. AAC's mission is to provide knowledge, inspiration, and logistical support for the climbing community.
