Experience Sailing

Have you seen sailboats out on Bellingham Bay and been tempted to try it out yourself? Or perhaps you’ve heard from friends how much they enjoy the challenge of reading the wind, sailing a course, and returning to a mooring. Bellingham Bay is an excellent location to ‘get your feet wet’ and experience what all the talk of sailing is about!

This introductory one-time class is a great option for those interested in experiencing the basics of sailing without making a large investment of time or money. Under the direction of an experienced skipper, up to four students will sail aboard a 24 or 26 foot sailboat, departing and returning to the Community Boating Center under sail-power only! Participants will experience rigging a sailboat, learning boat parts, steering, and sailing maneuvers. Some initial time on land will be spent discussing the fundamentals of sailing but the focus is spending time on the water.

This class runs rain or shine, but only if conditions are safe and if there’s enough wind to sail!
