Wild Womxn Week 2020
Feb 29, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - Mar 8, 2020 @ 10:00 pm

Shifting Gears, a local non-profit in Bellingham, is announcing a week of programs and activities in celebration of International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8th, 2020.
To highlight the benefits of outdoor recreation and changing societal norms, Shifting Gears plans to take over outdoor spaces with “Wild Womxn Week.” Kick off the week with the “Wild Womxn: Adventure Film Night” hosted by Shifting Gears and Boundary Bay Brewery on February 29th from 6pm to 10pm, located in the Mountain Room. This event is free and open to everyone. Come celebrate the incredible women who are adventuring and pushing limits in the outdoors. From March 1st through 8th, anyone who identifies as a womxn and wants to explore the outdoors can sign up for activities offered by local partners such as REI, Wild Whatcom, Transition Bikes, and Strength of the Tides. A full list of activities can be found at letsshiftgears.com
After a week of getting dirty, muddy and sweaty outside, Shifting Gears is encouraging womxn to clean up and get fancy for the “Wild Womxn: Dirt to Indulgence Afterparty.” In partnership with Boundary Bay Brewery, womxn are invited to an indulgent evening of auctions, drinks, dancing and sisterhood at Boundary Bay’s Mountain Room, on Sunday, March 8th from 6pm to 10pm.
Ticket prices are $15 online or $20 at the door and can be purchased at brownpapertickets.com/event/4504667. All proceeds from ticket sales will be used to fund hiking and biking programs during 2020 that break down barriers preventing womxn from exploring the outdoors.
In honor of celebrating our local womxn, Shifting Gears is seeking nominations for the second annual “Wild Womxn of the Year Award”. This award will honor a Wild Womxn in the Bellingham community who has been redefining what it means to be a womxn outside. This is someone who has overcome barriers and inspired others this past year with their resilient spirit and drive to thrive outside. To submit a nomination visit letsshiftgears.com. The award will be presented at the “Wild Womxn: Dirt to Indulgence Afterparty” on March 8th.
