MBE Summits Mt. Baker

Posted

On a whim, Casey O'Brien and Mark Cionek decided to climb Mt. Baker last weekend. The conversation went something like this:

"Do you want to climb Mt. Baker tomorrow?"

"Sure."

The two experienced climbers work for the American Alpine Institute in Bellingham. They awoke around 2 a.m. and were on the Coleman-Deming trail by 4. Skinning out of the parking lot at the dawn of a glorious bluebird day, they were on the 10,781-foot summit by 1 p.m.

O'Brien was able to do some light reading on the summit:

...before the pair skied back down this uninterrupted 6,000-foot slope all the way to the car:

After a stop at the North Fork Brewery and Restaurant for burgers and beer, they were back in Bellingham by 7 p.m. Way to seize the day, guys!
