Mt. Baker Ski Area is open for winter, finally.
After a wet and warm start that delayed opening by a month, the lauded ski area opened for season pass holders on Wednesday, December 13 after heavy snow blanketed the North Cascades over the past weekend.
Now open to all from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with two lodges and six lifts open on both flanks of the park, expect the mountain to be bustling with eager powder enthusiasts delayed nearly a month due to warm weather.
"Opening day yesterday was fun one,” the ski area website wrote. “Now forecasts are calling for a beautiful weekend here in the North Cascades.”
With the entire mountain boasting over 40 inches of snow base after just a few weeks of consistent precipitation, avalanches are always a possibility this early in the season. The ski area’s snow report issued a variable snow base advisory, meaning terrain can change without warning, and for folks to ride with extreme caution. X
