The legendary Ski to Sea is set for Sunday, May 26, 2024 and registration is officially open.

After celebrating 50 years of the iconic relay race last year, Whatcom Events opened up its registration portal for the 51st edition of the race on January 1. Teams who register before February 28 will save $50 on fees, and team rosters do not need to be finalized in order to register.

Starting at Mt. Baker Ski Area at an elevation of 4,300 feet and finishing at sea level in Marine Park in historic Fairhaven, Ski to Sea is touted as “America’s original team relay race,” and features a daunting seven legs.

Teams can consist of three to eight participants, but must be able to navigate each of the seven different sports across the 93-mile course.

  • Leg 1: 4-mile cross-country ski, starting at Mt. Baker Ski Area.
  • Leg 2: 2.5-mile downhill ski/snowboard.
  • Leg 3: 8-mile run dropping over 2,000 feet of elevation.
  • Leg 4: 42-mile road cycling down Mt. Baker Highway from Glacier to Everson.
  • Leg 5: 18.5-mile, two-person canoe down the Nooksack River.
  • Leg 6: 14-mile cyclocross from Ferndale to Bellingham Bay.
  • Leg 7: 5-mile sea kayak (weather permitting), finishing at Marine Park in Fairhaven.
